And finally the expedition is over.
We reached the Bearing Sea. It was long and testing journey, and all are really happy that we finally reached our destination. An emotional moment indeed.

Last evening, Peter, our sea farrier told me, “Apal, do you hear these Seagulls? Whenever I hear these birds, I know I am near the sea.” These Seagulls were sweet reminder of the fact that we were getting closer to our destination. The journey of Yukon, which started in Lake Marsh with Glacier water, is all set to finish in Bearing Sea. That is the journey of the river, of every river.

Today was the day of two milestones. Firstly we completed 3000 km on the river.  Even after many thousands of km on the river, it was still a special moment. At 2999 km Andy pulled out his GPS to show us, and we clapped, shouted and were happy like little children. All had a sip of Whisky to celebrate.  We drifted for from 2999 to 3000 km.

Each section of the river has different challenges. In the lower section, as we are closer to sea, river rises and falls with the tidal waves. Boats have to be tied for the night accordingly. If the line (ropes) is too short, it might break, when the water rises. Or they may be found hanging when the water recedes. Andy put in a stick on the edge of the river, to observe the rise and fall of water. We will know tomorrow morning if the water levels change.

What an amazing day on the river. Sun was bright, sky was deep blue, and clouds in thousands of beautiful formations. Yukon on it’s best!
